FOP: Flowery Orange Pekoe.
A large leaf size containing an abundance of tip.
The term Flowery refers to the leaf bud, since actual tea flowers are not used.
Orange is variously described as a reference to the Dutch House of Orange or as a reference to an old Chinese practice of including orange blossoms as a flavouring agent.
Pekoe is derived from a Chinese word meaning white down and refers to the tips of young tea buds' leaves.
GFOP: Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe. FOP with golden tips, which are the delicate yellow tips of the buds' leaves.
Buds have a lighter colour than fully formed leaves, hence Golden.
TGFOP: Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe. FOP with a larger proportion of golden tips than GFOP.
TGFOP1: the number 1 refers to "first grade" premium TGFOP.
FTGFOP: Fine Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe. Very high quality FOP.
SFTGFOP: Super-Fine Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe. Very high quality FOP with lots of golden tips.
First Flush: the leaves were plucked in the first growth of the season. It usually produces a very light, delicate drink.
Second Flush: second-growth harvest. More robust and complex than first flush.
Autumnal Flush: harvest after the rainy season.
